Anime and Manga Network

If there is one thing I hate more than a bad anime, is a bad anime video game. And sadly enough, with very little exception, almost every single video game based on a anime series is horrible. Why is that? Well similar to games based on movie franchises, these games don’t have any heart or soul to them. What I mean by that is the same hard work that is put into a good video game or a good anime is not put into these hybrids. Normally what happens is both companies are looking to just make more money on a franchise that is already immensely popular. And half the time, its done by video game developers that have no experience what so ever at making video games. I mean that doesn’t mean that new companies shouldn’t join the mix. Hell, if nothing new every showed up in video games, let alone life, things would get boring really fast. But to take something that is already great in put it into the hands of an amateur is just wrong.

For example, the Naruto franchise has spawned more video games than I care to take the time to count. With the exception of one, and even that game was pretty sorry, every single game has sucked. Only hardcore Naruto fans might enjoy it. And even then those people will probably hate it! (being someone who considers themselves a hardcore Naruto fan, I speak on behalf of those people). It simply boils down to a few key elements.

Poor controls: Yes, I know that sometimes making controls for ridiculous superpowers can be hard, but that doesn’t mean its impossible. Look at a franchise game that doesn’t fail: Marvel Ultimate Alliance. This game is genuinely fun! Granted, it does get repetitive by the time you real the end of the game, but the controls are absolutely smooth and responsive.

Bad/No original plot: Most of the time, these games just take the plot straight from the show. Or they try to add on some side quest but it seems rushed and thrown together. That’s because most of these games are rushed and thrown together. So just like the rest of the game, the plot suffers.

So what is going to stop this onslaught of series damaging games? Well honestly I don’t know if they can be stopped. Some game designers are taking great strides to the fix the problems. The creators of Dragonball Z Burst Limit and Pokemon have shown this dedication. But until companies attempt to please us instead of just looting our pockets of money, things won’t stop. The only other thing we can do, is stand together as one big force and demand more out of these companies. Too bad there will always be little kids who counter act this, by buying the games cause they recognize the characters…
