Anime Review: Code Geass: LeLouch of the Rebellion

Code Geass presents a world where Britannia has taken over the world and started demoralizing nations by renaming them as Area numbers. Japan is renamed Area 11 (the people are also thusly renamed 11’s instead of Japanese). The story is centralized around LeLouch who is actually a member of the Britannian Royal Family, but is out to destroy the empire to avenge his mother’s murder by the Emperor. LeLouch meets a strange girl that gives him the power to control people’s minds by making eye contact with them. Using this power as well as his superior intellect, LeLouch turns a terrorist group into an army known as The Black Knights and begins his quest to destroy the Britannian Empire.

This show is interesting in the fact that it gets better as it goes on. Another aspect of the show is the giant robots involved. The only thing is there aren’t that many battles early on. Though the first few episodes allow for character development, even this seems to go slow. The first few episodes are really filler more than anything (which is weird since this is supposed to be the start of the series). But after the initial story is established, this series picks up and it picks up fast. Early on a major Britannian leader is murdered and from then on the story is filled with a gridlock of action. Though at times particular episodes might lack the amount of action one would hope for, the following episode always delivers in its stead.

This show is pretty interesting and supposedly, season 2 is even more amazing than the first. So if you are looking for a new giant robot anime, this isn’t a bad one to pick up.
